Our Story
Wilder guides began in the early part of 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the world. As human activity ground to a halt across the globe, nature seemed to ‘breathe out’ – air quality improved, bees pollinated more flowers, lions stalked the Serengeti plains in peace – and we had a glimpse of what ‘sustainable’ might actually look like.
People everywhere had started to join the dots... Greta Thunberg, the plastics crisis in the oceans, consumerism and global warming. Perhaps finally the Climate Change movement had its climate for change. We had a once in a lifetime opportunity to create lasting change.
Reflecting on what this meant for travel, we realised there was very little cohesive information available to help people make informed decisions about travelling sustainably. How? Why, or even what ‘sustainable travel’ actually meant? So we decided to create the Wilder Guides. A guidebook series focused on responsible travel; highlighting sustainably run hotels and attractions and introducing the often visionary people behind them.
